Jaguar Journal- September 28, 2018

Hello North Hampton parents, guardians and community,

I hope this message finds you well and that you are excited for the wonderful month of October!

Quote of the Day:  "The best way to cheer yourself up is to try to cheer somebody else up!"  Mark Twain

Student Contact Confirmation Sheet-  Please look for a sheet containing your child's student contact information (what we have on record in the office) in the Friday Folder, or somewhere in the backpack.  Please review the information and make any corrections necessary.  Please send corrected forms back to the school, where the office staff will make any needed changes.

Early release- Our first scheduled early release day is coming up next Friday, October 5th.  Our early release time is 12:00 this year, which aligns us with the rest of the schools in the SAU.  After each early release, our staff engages in professional development, either as a school or in collaboration with the SAU.  On 10/05, our staff will be working with Jon VanderEls, an SAU-wide competency-based education consultant working with us to develop quality performance assessments.  We will have another early release on Wednesday, October 24th, about which I'll remind you as we get closer to that date.

Curriculum Night Schedule-  Thursday, October 11th

4:45-4:55- Administrative presentation #1

5:00-5:45- Teacher/Grade level presentation #1 (7th grade presentation)

5:45-6:15- UA teacher presentations in the gym

6:15-7:00- Teacher/Grade level presentation #2 (8th grade presentation)

7:05-7:15- Administrative presentation #1

Both presentations by the teachers and administration are intended to include the same information (not including the separate presentations for 7th and 8th grade).  I'd love to see all of our parents, guardians, and families!

At an all school assembly this morning, I asked the kids about what they think the "greatest school in the universe" might look and feel like and/or what might happen there.  Here's what I heard from them:  be environmentally conscious, be happy and have fun, be safe, spread positivity, be very kind to each other, all students are taught equitably, we are comfortable being ourselves and being with each other, all people are treated with respect, don't stereotype students because of their gender, choose to be nice, listen to each other and your teachers, respect the school, respect and thank the teachers, and Be Awesome!  Of course, I also got more recess and more chicken nuggets, but these are some pretty phenomenal thoughts and ideas.  I look forward to our Student Council/Government helping to develop our student vision for being the greatest school we can be.

On another note, when people think about parent involvement, often they think about volunteering in classrooms or on field trips, which we LOVE, but did you know that research shows that supporting your child's education at home is even more important?  Sometimes it's tough, though, talking to your kids about school, especially as they get older.  If you'd like to get more than "Fine" or "Nothing much" to your inquiries about school, try asking your child to "tell me what you learned about that you'd like to know more about" or "let's talk about a book you enjoyed today" or "how were you kind or helpful today?".

Respectfully,

Erik M. Anderson
