North Hampton School

Jaguar Journal- October 12, 2018

Hello North Hampton parents and guardians,

The new school website is at www.northhamptonschool.org .  Thank you to the parent who pointed out that the link on the town website still points to the old webpage.  We'll get that fixed.  Thank you to all who have visited the new site and for the positive feedback and suggestions.  Parents, please check the "digital backpack" under the Quick Links on the homepage.  This is where you'll find various informational flyers about school and town activities that were previously posted along with Blackboard Connect messages.

I hope you were able to attend Curriculum Night last night, but I realize some of you had conflicts with conferences scheduled at Winnacunnet HS.  For those of you who were able to attend, I'm sure you appreciated the efforts of our teachers, who all did a super job presenting.  If you weren't able to attend, you may find curriculum packets or handouts for each grade and Unified Arts posted on the website.   Click on the Curriculum tab and go to Curriculum Night.  Thank you to our Curriculum Coordinator, Becca Carlson, for getting these documents online and accessible so quickly.

Parent volunteer fingerprinting and background check procedure- As implemented in all SAU 21 schools last year, any school volunteer who intends to chaperone and/or participate in a school event which may result in him/her independently monitoring students without the supervision of an NHS staff member is required to participate in a background check, which includes fingerprinting.  If you intend to be a driver on a field trip, or volunteer in another capacity, please contact Sandy Kane, Human Resources Assistant, at the SAU 21 Human Resources office (603-926-8992 x110).  Fingerprinting occurs on Tuesdays afternoons, or by appointment, at the SAU.  Upon successful completion of the criminal background check, which usually takes approximately three weeks, you'll be able to volunteer or chaperone.  Once you've had a background check, it does NOT need to be redone as long as you maintain residency.  If you would also like to drive, please come into the NHS office to complete the Driver's assurance of insurance form.  Thank you volunteers!

Wellness Committee- The North Hampton School Wellness Committee is seeking interested parents, community members and teachers to join the committee.  The Wellness Committee meets four times a year and supports the wellness of students, staff and the community.  Please feel free to contact Amy Choate at amychoate@ymail.com if you are interested or have questions.

Field trips- Both 4th and 5th grades went on daylong field trips, providing significant experiential learning opportunities for our students.  The 5th grade visited the Freedom Trail in Boston, while our 4th grade sailed on the gundalow Piscataqua off the seacoast.  If you have a 4th or 5th grader, I hope your child shared a story or two about the trip.

Meanwhile, there are a multitude of goings on in the Greenhouse, as our teachers are finding more and more creative ways to harvest the potential of this unique facility for our students.

Athletics- Our athletic teams have had a very successful fall season, highlighted by high participation in both volleyball and cross country and, in spite of a slow start, the co-ed soccer team.  The volleyball team, coached by Lisa Noonis, beat Seabrook (go team!) and our runners, coached by Dana Hanson-Babyak, scored very high at our home meet while benefiting from the intensity of the Seacoast Middle School Cross Country Championships at Sagamore.  Over the course of the season, we had some issues with the timeliness of transportation for away games.  This will be rectified for the upcoming winter season.  Also, in advance of the winter season, we will hold a “Winter Sports Night” to promote participation and provide information for parents and guardians.

Thank you for your continued support of our school, teachers, and programs.  What makes a school and caring community special?  It's all about the kids.

Thank you,

Erik M. Anderson
Principal
