Jaguar Journal- October 26, 2018

Hello North Hampton parents and guardians,

What a wonderful Red Ribbon Week photo, above, on the Homepage scroll, taken on Friday morning, October 26th.  Thank you to our 6th grade for hosting the Red Ribbon Week assembly and for the idea to take the "Ribbon" photo!

NHS parents and guardians should have received a School Messenger "test" message (both e-mail and phone) on Wednesday (10/24) afternoon at 4:00pm, or slightly thereafter. Therefore, I intend for the next message I send to be through School Messenger, rather than Campus Suite Notifications.  If you did not receive a test message on Wednesday, please contact the school office next week.

The "Digital Backpack" (containing informational flyers and other school news) is available as a Quick Link (lower right hand corner) on the Homepage of the new school website at: https://www.northhamptonschool.org/

Afternoon Pick-up procedure- Beginning on Monday, October 29th drop-off and pick-up for afternoon Preschool will occur on the east (right, as you're looking from the street) side of the building. The will help immensely with the flow of traffic in the K-8 pick-up line (at 2:50) on the west side of the building.  If you are in the K-8 pick-up line, please remember to stay in your vehicle while you are waiting. As cars load, we ask that you pull forward. After you pass the back of the school, near the greenhouse, your child will come to you. If you prefer to get out of your vehicle, you may park in an open space in the parking lot and walk over to the children.

On Thursday November 8th, North Hampton Police Officer Chris Poppalardo will speak with our students about the ALICE (Alert, Lockdown, Inform, Counter, Evacuate) violent intruder response procedure that we are implementing as part of our Emergency Management procedures here at NHS. The ALICE website is at: https://www.alicetraining.com/about-us/

ALICE is a response procedure that we hope to never need to use, but need to be prepared to use, just in case. Officer "P" will speak with the students in three groups, first the 6-8th grades, followed by 3-5, then finally K-2. We'll speak with our Pre-K kids separately. Each "talk" will last 20 minutes or less, after which the students will understand the ALICE protocol and why it's important to help keep them safe.

We'll then engage with the staff in a brief refresher, after last year's initial training. We'll then be ready to have a practice drill. Of course, I'll let you know when that has been scheduled. I look forward to collaborating with new North Hampton Police Chief Kathryn Mone (who is being sworn in this Monday, October 29th) and Fire Chief Mike Tully throughout this process.
