North Hampton School

Weekly Note from Ms. Snyder 12/19

Dear NHS Community,

Well, it’s been quite a week at North Hampton School! We had a wonderful band concert last night and an equally wonderful choral concert last week. Many thanks to Mr. Singer, Mrs. Oliver, and all the teachers and parents who have supported our music programs here at NHS. Our 5th graders have been working on an interdisciplinary project to design, budget for, and build Cozy Cottages. It’s a pretty impressive process. Our sixth graders created sustainable environmental arenas using a project based model. Our second graders had their first author share today AND I saw the REAL Gingerbread Man for the first time in my life right here in the North Hampton kindergarten! Your children’s teachers work each and every day to provide experiences for your children that are engaging and meaningful. They also work to create an environment where all students feel safe and valued. I know you join me in saying thank you to them. At the same time, the staff at NHS thanks you for sharing your children with us each day. It is, indeed, a privilege to work with children each day and yours brighten our days with their enthusiasm and positive energy.  We wish you all a holiday season filled with family, friends, and joy and a very happy New Year!

HAVEN and Seacoast Family Promise Collection

Thanks to all who donated to these worthy charities. The community generosity is much appreciated by these organizations and the families they serve. Student Government reps will deliver the items this week.

Health Reminders and Precautions

Our custodial staff has been doing extra cleaning in an effort to prevent the spread of illness. They have been wiping/disinfecting hand railings and door knobs in addition to their normal cleaning routines. Please remember that children should stay home if they have a fever. Children should be fever-free for 24 hours before returning to school. Similarly, children should stay home for 24 hours after vomiting. Thank you.

Partnership with North Hampton Police Department

As a school, we work closely with NHPD and NHFD to ensure student and school safety as well as to model the importance of working together within our community. In fact, we had a fire drill just this morning. (Everyone got out of the building in under 2 minutes!)

Officer Pops will be back at NHS on Wednesdays beginning in January. He will be teaching lessons in LEAD (Law Enforcement Against Drugs) for 6th graders. LEAD is the updated version of the old DARE curriculum. (Sixth grade parents should look for a letter to come home soon.) Additionally, he will be in the building for much of the day to interact with students at lunch and recess and help out at drop off and dismissal times. On the days Officer Poppalardo is with us at NHS, he's here for community outreach, to be a visual and welcoming presence, to forge positive relationships and to help with youth development and empowerment; as another positive adult connection. Chris is a great guest reader and you may hear from your child that he has read a story in class. He will likely be here on Mondays as well.

Kindergarten Registration

It’s already time to think about kindergarten registration for the 2020-2021 school year. We are busy putting together information for incoming parents and families. Kelly Ford has drafted a press announcement that will go to local newspapers this month. We hope to connect with families and provide the registration information during the month of February. We will have our Kindergarten Registration and Parent Information Night on March 12 from 6:00-7:00 PM. Kelly will be there to collect forms and the teachers will be presenting information about school experiences at NHS. We will have an orientation day for students on June 5. Students will come by appointment to see the school, meet the teachers, and take a tour. We look forward to welcoming the next group of NHS kindergartners!
