North Hampton School

Weekly Note from Ms. Snyder 11/10

Dear NHS Community,

Reminder: No school on Wed. Nov. 11th in recognition of Veteran’s Day.

End of Trimester 1

Trimester 1 ends on Dec. 4, 2020. Report cards will be issued for students and will be available for parents to view on Dec. 14, 2020. We will be utilizing Powerschool to generate report cards and parents will be able to view them in the Parent Portal. We asked all parents to setup a parent portal account in Powerschool early this school to update emergency contacts, demographic information, and provide permissions for internet use and photo/video permissions. Kelly Ford has been calling parents who have not yet updated their information in Powerschool to help them get started. The Powerschool Parent Portal will be the ONLY way you will be able to see your child’s report card. We will not be printing and mailing copies to your home. Please email Kelly if you need assistance (kford@sau21.org).

Note from Nurse Mara re: immunizations

The State Immunization report is due in the middle of November- PLEASE send in the most recent copy of immunization and physicals ASAP.- Middle schoolers are required to have their Tdap and will be considered non-compliant if not received. You can email me mderosier@sau21.org of or send it in with your child. Thank you!

Veteran’s Day

NHS Middle School Student Government has created a Veteran’s Day Tribute Video. Typically, we hold an all-school assembly to honor local veterans and teach students about the service of our veterans. Since this is not possible this year, Middle School Student Government representatives created a video using interview clips from local veterans. They also created tribute walls that will be set up on school grounds for a Veteran’s Day walk. All students will walk through the tribute panels with their class and view the video during class time on Nov. 10th.

Here is the link for you to watch at home:

School Picture Day--Nov. 17, 2020

Many have asked about this. We have changed our photographer and are pleased to announce that Geskus Photography will be at NHS on November 17th to take photos OUTDOORS. They will set up 2 tents under which they will take the pictures. If the weather is really poor, we will use the Greenhouse with doors open to do this. You should have received an order form on Friday, but can also choose to order online if you prefer. If you do use the order form, please be sure to return it to your child’s teacher before Nov. 17th. Students in RLA and middle school students will be able to come for a photo if they choose. We ask that parents remain in their cars in the carline area while students walk to the tent for the photograph. If your child is too young to do this alone, you may park and walk them to the sidewalk area, but will need to stay clear of the tent area. There will be staff members outside to help. Students will maintain social distance and  wear a mask until it is their turn to have the photo taken. Here is the schedule for the RLA and MS students:

12:00-12:30 Remote K-5 Remote K-5
12:30-2:00 Lunch/Break

Lunch/Break

2:00-2:30 Grade 6 Grade 6
2:30-2:45 Grade 7 Grade 7

Gratitude

Please see the note from Ms. Vas and Mr. Guidi below:

“Gratitude helps people feel more positive emotions, relish good experiences, improve their health, deal with adversity, and build strong relationships. People feel and express gratitude in multiple ways.

As part of the Social Emotional Learning (SEL) and Health classes, Ms.Vas and Mr. Guidi will be putting together a slideshow about Gratitude.

With the holiday season quickly approaching, we thought it would be a great time to take a step back and reflect on the things that we are grateful for. We will be putting together a slideshow that teachers will be able to share with their classes on Tuesday November 24th before students and staff leave for the Thanksgiving break.

The goal is to have each student (PreK to 8) and teachers take a picture that reflects what they are grateful for. This could be represented in words, sharing an object, sharing a photo of loved ones, etc. Feel free to be creative!!!!

We understand that everyone is extremely busy, but if you would like to participate in this school project please only send a picture or photo to Patrick Guidi (pguidi@sau21.org) by 3pm on Friday, November 20th.”

Meet our New BCBA

What is a BCBA, you may ask? It stands for Board Certified Behavior Analyst. Brookelyn Sommers is our new BCBA. She recently moved to NH from Hawaii! I am sure you will  join me in welcoming her to NHS. Here are few words from Brookelyn:

“A big hello to the North Hampton School families! I am Board Certified Behavior Analyst who just recently moved to the New England area with my family from Honolulu, HI. My experience with children ranges from the ages 2-14 years old and I’m passionate about using my skills and knowledge to make positive changes in your little one’s lives. I am excited to be working with the students, families and staff at North Hampton School!”

Holiday Need?

Each year, the North Hampton Fire Department offers families support in buying toys and gifts for children around the holidays. If you would like to request assistance, please fill out the attached form and return it to Angelo. The email address is listed on the form. All requests are handled confidentially.

If your family needs meal assistance, remember that school lunches are free of charge until the end of December and that Nurse Mara can connect families to a program called “68 Hours of Hunger” to obtain more substantial meal and food support. Contact Nurse Mara for details.

Please see information below regarding this year’s virtual talent show. Mrs. Oliver and Mrs. Zavez will be working together to coordinate. We truly appreciate their dedication to continuing this NHS tradition.

NHS TALENT SHOW - 2020

Grades 1 - 8

This year we are offering a Virtual Talent Show for NHS students in grades 1 through 8.  Now is the time to start practicing your act.  When you are ready, record it, and then send it to Mrs. Zavez.  She is going to create an iMovie with all the acts included.  If we have too many submissions for one movie, we will make two (one for younger students and one for older).  Eighth grade students will be the MCs.  Our intent is to have the movie(s) ready for viewing over the December holidays.  You can consider it a gift for your families.

 NHS TALENT SHOW RULES

All acts must be less than 3 minutes.

No lip-syncing.

All music and dances must be appropriate for a school event.  We will ask you to change the song or the moves if it is not.  Please ask if you have any doubt.

You may be in two performances if one is a solo or duet and the other is a group event

What to do:

1.  Sign-up to be in the Talent Show via signup.com (link below); please include names and grade(s) of all students who will be in act, the name of the song that will be used, and what talent is being shared.  You need to let us know by November 6th.
