Weekly Note from Ms. Snyder 2/28/21

Dear NHS Community,

I hope you have enjoyed the school vacation week. Please remember that if you have traveled out of New England, your children will need to follow the quarantine guidelines. Please let Nurse Mara know and she can answer any questions you may have.

The second trimester will end on March 19th and written report cards will once again be available to parents via the Powerschool Parent Portal about a week or so after. We will notify you of the exact date that you will be able to view them.

Trimester 3 Return Update

We are looking forward to having more Middle School students back in school 5 days per week later this month. Our start date for the “5-Day” plan is March 22nd, the first day of Trimester 3. You may be aware of an executive order from the NH Governor that requires students to be in school for 2 days per week beginning on March 8. Because we intend to exceed the requirements of the executive order and require significant planning and preparation at NHS to make this shift, we have requested an extension from the NH Department of Education for a March 15 start date for our “5-Day” plan. If this is approved, we will continue with our current plan until March 15th. We will let you know when we have an update.

We will also welcome back some of our elementary students who have elected to return from the Remote Learning Academy for Trimester 3. Trimester 3 begins on March 22. We will contact parents of returning elementary students with their child’s classroom assignment by Friday, March 5th. Students returning from RLA will return to NHS on March 22nd. We will plan a “Meet the Teacher” event one day in the preceding week.

BCBA

As you may have learned this year, BCBA is an acronym for Board Certified Behavior Analyst. If your child works with our BCBA, you may know that Brookelynn Sommers, who joined us in this role last fall is moving to the west coast and leaving North Hampton School. We look forward to welcoming Brenda Conley as our new BCBA this month.

SAU 21 Superintendent Search

As you know, Dr. Arakelian is our interim superintendent. A search process for a permanent Superintendent of Schools for SAU 21 is underway. There is a community forum scheduled for March 3 at 6 PM via zoom to gather input from interested parents and community members.
