Weekly Note from Ms. Snyder 3/19/2021

Dear NHS Community,

We have had a great week at NHS!

You are probably aware that the state of New Hampshire has eased travel restrictions and quarantine rules. This means that students who travel outside of the New England states no longer need to quarantine upon return. The only exceptions are international travel and cruises, which still require quarantine upon return. Students who are exposed to someone who has tested positive to Covid-19 will still need to quarantine and notify Nurse Mara.  This is the guidance we have received:

“Per the March 17th, 2021 NH DHHS Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19) Outbreak, Update # 38, New Hampshire residents are no longer required to quarantine after domestic travel (US and US Territories). People who travel internationally or on a cruise ship are still required to quarantine upon return to NH, unless diagnosed with COVID-19 infection in the prior 90 days or fully vaccinated against COVID-19.

Travelers should still uphold all safety precautions (mask-wearing, social distancing, hand washing) and monitor their health for any symptoms very carefully for 14 days upon return from any travel. In addition, DHHS/CDC still recommend getting tested 3-5 days after travel (with a molecular or PCR-based test).”

Middle School Sports-Grades 6-8

We plan to offer intramural sports after school based on interest. We will be sending more details to families who express interest. We are currently planning on offering two days per week for each sports opportunity. There will be a focus on skills, fun, and scrimmage opportunities rather than travel to other schools to compete.

Students in 6th, 7th and 8th grade have the opportunity to participate in Baseball, Cross Country, Cycling Club, Softball and Track this Spring. Please fill out this Spring Sports Google Form in order to sign up your child. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact me at pguidi@sau21.org.

School Meals

Please remember that school lunch and breakfast are still offered free of charge through the end of the school year.

Report Cards

Report cards will be available for parents to view in the Powerschool Portal on April 1, 2021. Please contact Kelly Ford if you need assistance with Powerschool.

Note from Nurse Mara:

I just wanted to remind everyone of the importance of keeping their child home when they are sick. Any student with symptoms of possible COVID-19 infection should not be present in school, and will be sent home if these symptoms develop during their time at school. A full list of COVID-19 symptoms can be found here. These symptoms are also listed in question one of the daily Pick Up Patrol Screening. Per NH DHHS guidance, students are required to get tested for Covid-19 or be out of in person learning for ten days from the onset of symptoms. Please do not assume it is a common cold. For the safety of all students and staff, please be sure to follow the recommendations provided by the CDC.

I do recognize that there are certain chronic conditions that may present with some of the same symptoms of Covid-19. Examples of these conditions include, but are not limited to: asthma, seasonal allergies, and chronic migraines. The health office requires physician documentation of the student’s chronic condition and typical symptoms the health condition presents with. If the student presents with symptoms during school, and it is unclear (or undocumented in the student’s medical record) if the symptoms are chronic, than the student will be excluded from school until they have met the return to school criteria or a healthcare provider can document a chronic/stable condition that accounts for the student’s symptoms.  To prevent this from happening, please contact your child's PCP today and request the proper documentation.

Thank you for your support in ensuring we keep the building as safe as possible. As always, if you have any questions, please feel free to contact me for more information. 964-5502 ext 213, mderosier@sau21.org
