North Hampton School

Weekly Note from Ms. Snyder 3/26/2021

Dear NHS Community-

You may have noticed we have 2 large tents back up at NHS. Teachers will sign up to use specific outdoor spaces so we can maintain social distancing outdoors as well. We are very grateful to Eagle Scout Liam Belluche, who planned and constructed a second outdoor classroom towards the end of the nature trail behind our school. We now have 2 outdoor classrooms in the woods with benches for students.

Car Line

There has been significantly more traffic at drop off and pick up times with the additional students in school. We appreciate your patience as we strive to provide a safe arrival and dismissal. Morning drop off typically goes more quickly because students can get right out the car and drivers don’t need to wait for a child to come down. We do ask that ALL students be ready to unload when you pull into the unloading area. This year, the unloading area is where the fire lane lines are painted. We are purposely not loading or unloading as far forward as the greenhouse for safety reasons. We have also added cones for safety reasons as it is unsafe for cars to quickly pull in and out of the drop off lane. At pick up time, we use two-way radios to call students when their vehicle is in the cue. Please be sure we can see your sign on the dashboard or hanging from your mirror. The sign should include: your child’s name, grade, and section or teacher, ie. KP or 7A. As always, please pull as far forward as you can and remember that drivers MUST stay in the car. Thank you for your support and patience!

New Hampshire State Testing Information for Grades 3-8

Please see information from our Curriculum Coordinator, Becca Carlson:

The SAS, our annual state assessment, is just around the corner.   The NH DOE is requiring the administration of the state-wide assessments this year. The purpose is to inform their understanding of students’ academic needs as a result of the pandemic.  The NH DOE acknowledges that instructional time is even more precious than usual this year. Our tentative testing dates are:

3rd Grade: 5/10-11 and 5/19

4th Grade: 5/4, 5/6, 5/12

5th Grade: 5/10-11, 5/17, and 5/20

6th to 8th Grade:  5/13-14, 5/21, and 5/18 (8th only)

Makeup Days: 5/25-5/28

The Math and ELA SAS is given to all students in grades 3 to 8, and the Science SAS is given to 5th and 8th grade students.  The pandemic prohibited us from participating in this assessment last year, so this will be a new assessment experience for both our 3rd and 4th graders this year.  Given that the last time our 5th through 8th graders used this on-line testing platform was May of 2019, we will also be providing opportunities for practice with the on-line tools and format.  Our teachers plan to provide these opportunities to build familiarity and comfort in the upcoming weeks.

Parents of 5th-8th Graders:

We plan to offer intramural sports after school based on interest. We will be sending more details to families who express interest. We are currently planning on offering two days per week for each sports opportunity. There will be a focus on skills, fun, and scrimmage opportunities rather than travel to other schools to compete.

Students in 6th, 7th and 8th grade have the opportunity to participate in Baseball, Cross Country, Cycling Club, Softball and Track this Spring. Please fill out this Spring Sports Google Form in order to sign up your child. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact me at pguidi@sau21.org.
