North Hampton School

Weekly Note from Ms. Snyder 4/16/2021

Dear NHS Community,

As we anticipate the last few months of school, we will begin to think about class placement for students in elementary grades for the 2021-2022 school year. I plan to send a letter to parents and guardians at each elementary grade level next week explaining the process. As a reminder, we are unable to accept requests for specific teachers by name, but will offer a voluntary parent input form. Please do not send email requests as we will be using the google form exclusively for elementary input. Our teaching teams in grades 6-8 will remain the same so students in those grades will automatically have them. We are unable to accept requests for placement in middle school travel groups as they often change throughout the year. If you are a middle school parent with a specific concern, please reach out to Susan Snyder, Becca Carlson, or Aisha Weaver.

Masks are still required in school

Although Gov. Sununu has lifted the mask order in the state of NH, we are still requiring masks in SAU 21. Students and staff will still be required to wear masks as has been our practice this year.

Library Books

If you have any overdue library books hiding in your house, please send them back to school.

Mrs. McCombs really misses them. We know routines have been interrupted by the pandemic, so it is understandable if some library books were misplaced. Please take a look around your house this weekend. Thank you!

Bus Transportation

As you may be aware, we have had an increase in bus use recently. We have worked closely with First Student and have been assured they can continue to follow our safety guidelines. That said, we need to ask that parents not use the bus as transportation for play dates. We do not anticipate any extra space for friends to ride along for a play date. Thank you for your assistance with this matter.

SAVE THE DATE--8th Grade Graduation

We are pleased to announce we are planning to hold 8th Grade Graduation outdoors at the North Hampton School field on Thursday, June 10th, with a rain date of Monday, June 14th.  We believe the guidance around outdoor gatherings from NH DHHS is likely to be updated before June. That said, it is possible that we may need to limit the number of guests for each student, depending on DHHS guidelines and SAU 21 practices at the time.

New Hampshire State Testing Information for Grades 3-8

3rd Grade: 5/10-11 and 5/19

4th Grade: 5/4, 5/6, 5/12

5th Grade: 5/10-11, 5/17, and 5/20

6th to 8th Grade:  5/13-14, 5/21, and 5/18 (8th only)

The Math and ELA SAS is given to all students in grades 3 to 8, and the Science SAS is given to 5th and 8th grade students.  The pandemic prohibited us from participating in this assessment last year, so this will be a new assessment experience for both our 3rd and 4th graders this year.  Given that the last time our 5th through 8th graders used this on-line testing platform was May of 2019, we will also be providing opportunities for practice with the on-line tools and format.  Our teachers plan to provide these opportunities to build familiarity and comfort in the upcoming weeks.
