North Hampton School

Weekly Note from Ms. Snyder 3/10/22

March 10, 2022

Dear NHS Community,

Message from PAL:

The North Hampton School PTO "PAL" is excited to host a Community Day/Night at Seacoast Soups on Monday, March 14th from 11a-6p!  Eat-in or take-out with 15% of proceeds going directly to PAL.  It's an easy and delicious way to support the North Hampton School's Parent Teacher Organization which aids in enrichment programs for all students.  We are looking forward to a great turnout!  For more info visit www.nhspal.com

Media Effects and Stress

Given recent world events and media coverage in Ukraine, I am passing along a resource from the National Association of School Psychologists about how to talk to children about these events if they seem stressed or bring it up to you. In school, we will not bring this topic up for a discussion. If a student brings it up in the context of a class discussion or if it is part of a class resource like “Scholastic News”, teachers will use the advice in the resource attached and speak with students privately when appropriate. We share this resource with you knowing that our older students may be exposed to more information and images through social media about these world events. School Psychologists recommend answering questions and reassuring younger students that the adults in their lives will keep them safe. (Our very youngest students are least likely to be aware of the news.) Older students may have questions that come up in the context of a social studies class where there could be links to the curriculum. School Psychologists additionally recommend limiting or closely monitoring social media and/or media coverage.
