Weekly Note from Ms. Snyder 3/23/22

March 23, 2022

Dear NHS Community,

A Note about Report Cards

Report cards will be available to view tomorrow, March 24, 2022. Our report cards are competency based, meaning students receive indicators from 1-4. Please note that these are not directly transferable to a traditional letter grade (ie. a 4 is not an A, and so on). Rather, they indicate the child’s progress towards attaining competency in the standards. You can find supporting documents for each grade level on our website. These documents indicate where in the journey to competency a student should be at the end of each trimester to demonstrate proficiency.

Supporting Document Link

At the top of the report card you will find the following statement for proficiency (3):  Student performance meets the expected grade level skills and knowledge for making period expectation with consistency, quality, and independence.”  What does it mean if your child is a 2?  Receiving a 2 means they are progressing toward the marking period expectation, demonstrating some understanding and application of skills and knowledge with support.  A 2 doesn’t necessarily mean your child cannot demonstrate a skill. Your child’s report card comments are there to communicate individualized information pertaining to your child’s performance and progress.

Fearless Digital Parenting Workshop

NHS parents have been invited to attend a virtual workshop on parenting in the digital age. Our friends at the Barnard School in South Hampton have arranged this event and included parents from all SAU 21 schools.

NHS Parent Forum–Special Education Director Search

Please join us if you wish to learn more and/or to provide input into this process. We encourage your participation. Knowing that we likely cannot accommodate every parent who wishes to be on the selection committee, we are offering this opportunity for input.
