Weekly Note from Ms. Snyder 12/07/2022

December 7, 2022

Dear NHS Families,

Report Cards

Student report cards will be available for parents to view in the Parent Portal in Powerschool starting tomorrow, Dec. 8, 2022.  Please be sure to take time to review your child’s progress. We use a competency based grading system, meaning student progress is measured by their growth towards specific learning standards or competencies. You will see a 1-4 scale on the report card. 1 means beginning (student is progressing with support); 2 means progressing towards trimester expectation; 3 means proficient (meeting expectations with consistency and independence); and 4 means exceeding the trimester expectations. Be sure to use the supporting documents on our website to help you understand what it looks like to meet the standard or competency at your child’s grade level for Trimester 1.

It is not uncommon to see 2’s on a report card. This just means that a student is working towards proficiency. It doesn’t mean they haven’t made progress or they are not working.

Teachers put a great deal of thought and care into creating report cards so parents can have a clear view of what their children are learning and how they are progressing.

Concerts

We have a Choral Concert tonight (Dec. 7) at 6:30 PM featuring the chorus in grades 5-8.

We will have a Band Concert on Dec. 14th at 6:00 PM featuring the band in grades 6-8.

PAL COOKIE DAY

This Friday is the NHS Holiday Appreciation Day!  Your child should have

received a notecard to make a holiday greeting card.  If not, any card

or paper will work.  Please decorate the cookie cards with a general

message and place them in the collection box in the school lobby before

Friday. The cards should not be addressed to a specific teacher or

person. We want to make sure that everyone has a card.

You can still sign up to bake or help.

This is a very special event for the NHS community!  Thank you so much

for your support!
