Weekly Note from Ms. Snyder 5/3/2023

Dear NHS Families,

I hope you all had a wonderful school vacation week.

If you have not already done and wish to, please be sure to fill out the parent input form (for the 23-24 school year). This was sent to parents at each grade level from K-4. Parents in grades 5-7 were asked to contact teachers directly if they have any concerns or input for Homeroom or travel groupings to start the year.

Don't forget that next week is Teacher Appreciation Week--May 8-12, 2023. Teachers always appreciate a note of thanks from students and parents!

It’s Book Fair Time!

Our annual Scholastic Book Fair will be taking place this month.

Students will be able to get a sneak peak at some of the books May 3 - 9, 2023.

Our family night will be Wednesday, May 10th, 4:30-6:30 PM in the NHS gym.

For more information, take a look at our Book Fair Flyer

Last Day of School

The School Board voted to announce that June 16th will be the last day of school for students. It will be a 12:00 dismissal on the last day. Please note that 8th grade graduation will take place on June 15 at 6 PM. While we hope to have it outdoors, we can move it inside if the weather does not cooperate.

Seat Belt Safety

North Hampton police will be more visible at drop off and pick up from May 15-June 4, for this annual safety campaign. The police will be conducting seatbelt checks. As a community partner, the goal is to educate and not issue any summonses.

SAS Testing

Please see the updated testing schedule for grades 3-8 at the bottom of this email.

Sharing Student Project

Please read the information below from one of our 8th graders:

“At the beginning of my 8th Grade ELO Project, I had hoped to raise awareness about the inclusion of kids with disabilities in the skateboarding world. I created “Goofy Foot Skating”, a place where I could raise funds to eventually donate in the name of my cause. To get ALL kids on skateboards, no matter their disability - Everyone should be INCLUDED!

Now months later, and many loaves of bake-sale banana bread sold, I've discovered there is lots to be done.  With help from school, I made my first contact with Beau Lambert and his "Get On Board" project, who travels the country bringing the art of skateboarding to schools. Get On Board will be coming to NHS in June to share their story and spread the skateboarding love! Next I reached out to a Paralympian  Noelle Lambert, who trains here in New Hampshire. Along with being an amazing athlete, 2022 Survivor Competitor, and a motivational speaker, she started The Born To Run Foundation in 2018. Through her foundation, she raises funds to supply child athletes with high quality prosthesis, so they may compete at the highest level in their sport.  So far in my fundraising journey, I have raised enough money to have Noelle come speak at NHS on May 30th, but I'm not done!!!  When she comes I'd like to donate the remaining money I've raised directly to her Born To Run Foundation, on behalf of Goofy Foot Skating.

Thank you to everyone who bought one of the T-Shirts I designed, came to the bake sales, or made donations directly on the Custom Ink site: Goofy Foot Skating T-Shirt Fundraiser! I'm so

grateful for all of the support while I try to reach my $3,000 goal. It's been a lot of hard work and I'm very happy to do it, in an effort to help another child athlete.”
