North Hampton School

Weekly Note from Ms. Snyder 12/08/2023

December 8, 2023

Dear NHS Families,

Important Schedule Change

The NH state primary election was recently announced and scheduled for January 23, 2023. Because the town uses the school for voting, the North Hampton School Board voted last night to not have school on this day. There will be no school for students on January 23rd.

From PAL: Staff Appreciation Cookie Day

Thank you to all the helpers and bakers who signed up for our Staff Appreciation Cookie Day next Friday, 12/15!  This is such a special tradition and we could not keep it going without you!  We can still use BAKERS and you can sign up here and send your treats in with your student next Friday morning.

12 Days of Giving

You should have received a note from Nurse Mara offering holiday gift support for families and also asking for families who may be interested in making donations. Please contact Nurse Mara for either of these. If you wish to donate a toy of any kind, we will also have a collection box in the lobby in collaboration with Winnacunnet HS student government and the North Hampton Fire Dept. Toys for Tots program.

Report Cards

Report cards will be available to view in the Parent Portal of Powerschool beginning on Monday, Dec. 11th. NHS uses a competency based grading system with indicators from 1-4. If your child earned a “3” in a particular power standard or competency, that means he/she meets the expected grade level skills/knowledge for the trimester expectation with consistency, quality, and independence.  If your child earned a “1” or a “2”, it doesn’t mean they aren’t making progress, but rather could indicate they are developing the skill or not yet able to demonstrate the skill consistently. You will find supporting documents on our website that explain the end of trimester expectations for each graded competency area on the report card.

Dates to remember:

Dec. 11: Report cards available for parents to view in Powerschool Parent Portal

Dec. 14: Band Concert at 6 PM –Grades 5-8

Dec. 15: Staff Appreciation Cookie Day sponsored by PAL

Dec. 29-Jan. 1: Winter vacation week–no school

Jan. 2: Classes resume

Jan. 23: No school--Primary Election Day for New Hampshire

Cook Center Resources Available to Parents

This year, we have partnered with the Cook Center to offer parenting support for any families that may wish to take advantage of online parent coaching. Please see the flyer below.  All services are confidential and the Cook Center will not share any information about which families take advantage of the service.

Message from North Hampton Public Library

The North Hampton Library staff asked us to send this information out to parents. They love having your children visit the library, but also need to enforce their policies so that the library is a safe and happy place for all visitors. Please read it carefully and check out their policy on children in the library.

Children under the age of eleven (11) may not be left unattended at the library unless that child is attending a library program that specifically states that participating children do not have to have a parent in attendance with them. A child is unattended if a parent is not present with the child at all times while in the library.

At the discretion of a parent, a child aged eleven (11) to thirteen (13) may be left unattended for up to 2 hours as long as the child knows how to reach a parent in case the need arises. Children may not be left longer than two hours; the library does not provide child care services.
