Weekly Note from Ms. Snyder 1/3/2024

January 4, 2024

Dear NHS Families,

Happy New Year! As we begin 2024, we are hearing of the first possibility of snow in the forecast. As a reminder, students need to have proper clothing to play outdoors in the snow. Snowpants, boots, a warm jacket, hats, and gloves are recommended. When students play outdoors and there is snow or ice on the ground, they are not allowed to throw snow or ice under any circumstances. This is for obvious safety reasons. If the Superintendent determines we need to have a snow day or a delayed start, families will receive notification through our messaging system, School Messenger. Notifications are typically sent via email and phone calls. If there is a one hour delay, school starts at 9:25 and if there is a two hour delay, school starts at 10:25. Parents can expect buses to also run one or two hours later depending on the call. That said, buses often are delayed further when the weather is challenging, so patience is appreciated.

Suptintendent’s Leadership Team–middle school student opportunity

Applications are being accepted for the Superintendent's Student Leadership Team. The team represents all schools within SAU 21 with 2 members from each elementary district and 8 representatives from Winnacunnet High School.  Students must be in grades 7 or 8 (elementary districts) or in grades 9-12 (Winnacunnet).  Members will serve for one school year and may reapply to serve for up to one additional year.  Selections will be made based on application, and we will look to ensure the team reflects the diverse population of our communities.  Members are expected to work cooperatively and respectfully with leadership team members, actively participate in leadership team tasks, and value and respect the diversity of our SAU 21 schools. The group will meet monthly through the remainder of the 2024 school year.

Applications will be accepted through January 16, 2024.

Message from North Hampton Public Library

The North Hampton Library staff asked us to send this information out to parents. They love having your children visit the library, but also need to enforce their policies so that the library is a safe and happy place for all visitors. Please read it carefully and check out their policy on children in the library.

Children under the age of eleven (11) may not be left unattended at the library unless that child is attending a library program that specifically states that participating children do not have to have a parent in attendance with them. A child is unattended if a parent is not present with the child at all times while in the library.

At the discretion of a parent, a child aged eleven (11) to thirteen (13) may be left unattended for up to 2 hours as long as the child knows how to reach a parent in case the need arises. Children may not be left longer than two hours; the library does not provide child care services.
