North Hampton School

Weekly Note from Ms. Snyder 1/10/2024

January 10, 2024

Dear NHS Families,

Reminder: There is no school on Monday, January 15th in recognition of Martin Luther King Jr. Day.

We now have the first snowstorm of the year under our belts. When a delayed opening is called due to weather conditions, we open 2 hours or 1 hour after our regular times. This is true for the bus pickups as well. With a one hour delay, school starts at 9:25 AM and with a two hour delay, school starts at 10:25 AM. As you can imagine, a delayed opening impacts the school day, so we have adjusted lunch times and UA class times to account for the late start. With a delayed start, some grades don’t have time in the schedule for a regular recess, so we hope kids can get out and play outside at home before school when there is a delay for snow.

Snow Clothes

When there is snow on the ground, students should bring boots, snow pants, jackets, hats, and gloves so they can play in the snow. If a student forgets snow pants or boots, Nurse Mara often is able to lend them some so they can play in the snow. If they don’t wear snow pants and boots, students can play on the paved area that is clear, but not in the snow. If you have boots or snow pants that your child has outgrown and no longer uses, please contact Nurse Mara to see if she needs some in that size to lend out. Thank you.

100th Day Food Drive Starts Soon

Our First grade team facilitates a Food Drive each year to benefit Gather. They choose this time of year because many food pantries don’t receive as many donations as they do during the holiday season. The Food Drive will kick off on January 26th. On that day, each grade will find out what kind of food they should collect to donate. Stay tuned for more information soon.

Superintendent’s Leadership Team–middle school student opportunity

Applications are being accepted for the Superintendent's Student Leadership Team. The team represents all schools within SAU 21 with 2 members from each elementary district and 8 representatives from Winnacunnet High School.  Students must be in grades 7 or 8 (elementary districts) or in grades 9-12 (Winnacunnet).  Members will serve for one school year and may reapply to serve for up to one additional year.  Selections will be made based on application, and we will look to ensure the team reflects the diverse population of our communities.  Members are expected to work cooperatively and respectfully with leadership team members, actively participate in leadership team tasks, and value and respect the diversity of our SAU 21 schools. The group will meet monthly through the remainder of the 2024 school year.

Applications will be accepted through January 16, 2024.

Message from North Hampton Public Library

The North Hampton Library staff asked us to send this information out to parents. They love having your children visit the library, but also need to enforce their policies so that the library is a safe and happy place for all visitors. Please read it carefully and check out their policy on children in the library.

Children under the age of eleven (11) may not be left unattended at the library unless that child is attending a library program that specifically states that participating children do not have to have a parent in attendance with them. A child is unattended if a parent is not present with the child at all times while in the library.

At the discretion of a parent, a child aged eleven (11) to thirteen (13) may be left unattended for up to 2 hours as long as the child knows how to reach a parent in case the need arises. Children may not be left longer than two hours; the library does not provide child care services.
