July 17, 2024
Dear North Hampton Families,
I hope you are enjoying the summer with your children! If you are new to North Hampton School, welcome to our school! As a reminder, school hours are: 8:25 a.m. to 2:50 p.m. The first day of school for grades 1-8 will be Tuesday, August 27, 2024. There will be no school on Friday, August 30, 2024 and Monday, September 2, 2024 in recognition of the Labor Day weekend. Additionally, there is no school on Tuesday, September 10, 2024 due to local elections.
Kindergarten students will come for a screening appointment (about 45 min) on either August 27 or 28, 2024. The first day for kindergarten will be August 29, 2024. Additionally, the first 5 days for kindergarten students will be half days with a 12:00 dismissal (Aug. 29, Sept. 3, 4, 5, 6). The first full day of kindergarten is September 9, 2024. North Hampton Rec. Dept. will have child care available on site on those days. Registration is required. The first day for Preschool is September 3, 2024.
As we think about the coming school year, we are pleased to announce that we are planning an open house in classrooms on August 26, 2024 from 4:30-5:30 PM. Students and families can come meet the teacher and see the classroom. PAL is planning an outdoor event that afternoon as well. More information will follow.
Speaking of classrooms and teachers, I am sure some of you are anxious to learn of your child’s class placement for the 2024-2025 school year. Teams have worked hard to create class lists that are balanced and meet the needs of each student. The Powerschool Parent Portal will open soon and parents will need to update their child’s information (with the exception of kindergarten students who are fully registered). We also require updated proof of residency and physical exam records in some grades. Sue MacLaughlin will email parents individually, with the class assignment beginning on August 5, provided we have all the required documents and your child’s portal information is updated.
In the portal, you will see a number of forms or documents to acknowledge receipt of:
Family/Student Handbook Draft
G Suite Notifications
NHS Outdoor Education Agreement
Technology Acceptable Use
You will also see items for which you need to give or not give permission:
Walking and Biking to School (grades 3-8)
Sunscreen and Insect Repellent
Photos/Videos Allowed
Permission to complete the PEAR Holistic Student Assessment
This is the first year we are including the permission for the PEAR (Partnerships in Education and Resilience) survey permission. Your permission is required in order for us to administer the PEAR survey which asks students to endorse or not endorse how they feel about school, friendships, and themselves. The results are confidential and will be shared with parents via our school counselor. If we have a high level of participation, the survey can provide us with a view of how our students feel about school and relationships. If you do not wish to give permission when the portal opens or have questions, we can send home the form again in September.
You will likely receive an email in the next week or so saying the Parent Portal is open. You can update your child’s information any time. Beginning on August 5th, we will send class assignment emails to individual parents who have completed all the steps.
I hope you continue to enjoy the summer. We look forward to seeing everyone on August 26th!
Best,
Susan Snyder
