Dear NHS Community,
With an impending snowstorm, we plan to send home student devices after school on Monday. This is so we will be ready if the superintendent calls a ‘remote learning day’ due to snow. Please rest assured that teachers will also set aside time for students to be able to play outside in the snow when making their schedule. When devices go back and forth for this reason, it is important for students to remember to keep track of the device and the charging cord and return both to school the following day.
Parent Conferences
Parent Conferences will take place this week. Many will occur on Feb. 3 in the afternoon, but some teachers may schedule conferences at other times to accommodate both parents and team members at the middle school level who need to attend.

Grade 1: soup
Grade 2: toothpaste
Grade 3: dish soap
Grade 4: jelly
Grade 5: ketchup/mustard
Grade 6: shampoo
Grade 7: oatmeal
Grade 8: brownie mix
Staff: milk alternatives, ie. soy, almond, etc.
Spelling Bee
The annual Spelling Bee was held on Thursday. Many thanks to town moderator, Bobbi Burns and our own Becca Carlson for being the judges. 4th grade teacher Linda Donohoe and Becca Carlson organized the event and led practice sessions for participants. The NHS Bee is part of the Scripps National Spelling Bee system and uses rules and words from the National Bee resources. Technology teacher Carly Herlihy set up and moderated the zoom platform during the Bee. We are proud of all the participants and wish to recognize their commitment to learning and willingness to take on the challenge of spelling on demand in front of an audience. It is not an easy thing to do and they all participated with grace and confidence.
The following students participated in the NHS Spelling Bee: Justin Becker, Sophie Burgess, Madelynn Dinan, Sullivan Duffy, Corbin Garofalo, Edward McNamara, Landon Maloney, Vera McCown, Kaelyn Moore, Max Passero, Max Rochford, Madison Wallus, Van Walther.
First place went to Edward McNamara. Second place went to Sullivan Duffy. Congratulations to all!
Valentine’s Day
Many elementary grades enjoy exchanging valentine cards each year. Your child’s teacher will send home information specific to their classroom. After consulting with our school nurse and reading guidelines created for libraries about quarantining paper materials, we have a set of guidelines that should be followed if your child’s class is exchanging valentines.
If your child brings valentine cards, there should be one for every member of the class.
No food or candy is allowed. This includes packaged food and candy.
Cards should be sealed with tape or left unsealed. Please do not allow your child to lick the envelopes.
We will quarantine the cards before sharing them, so they need to be sent to school no later than February 8th. They will be distributed then and allowed to sit for 3 days before students open them on February 12th.
February Breakfast and Lunch menus
Please remember that school meals can be supplied free of charge to all students.

Kindergarten Registration for 2021-2022

If you know of any families who have a child who is eligible for kindergarten (must be 5 by September 30, 2021), please send them our way. This is also the right time for families who wish to register for first grade (must be 6 by September 30, 2021) as well. We know of some families who elected to use other schools for kindergarten during the pandemic.
